Lesina, the north door of the Gargano National Park , is located on a small peninsula, on the southern part of Lake Lesina. It is a place where the visitor can find a treasure trove of natural elements of great interest. Lake and sea, flora and fauna, protected nature and developed tourism, are the unique binomials of Lesina and its picturesque territory.

An urban settlement of ancient history, flouishing in the Longobard and Norman eras, thanks to the fish found in the waters of its lake, still present today,like the town of the "eels" and fish. At a short distance there is the so-called "island", a vast Mediterranean spot,which encloses an untouched nature: forests, pine forests and dunes, which separate the lake from the sea, where you can find various species of birds or see grazing herds of buffalos.

The entire eastern part of the lake was subject to a system of "Natural Reserve of Animal Repopulation". Tourism development is particularily concentrated in the north of the city, that which overlooks the sea. Here lies Marina di Lesina, repeatedly rewarded among Italian tourist resorts for the purity of its waters.

Amongst the largest lagoons of the Mediterranean, Lesina owes its fame to the richness of its sweet waters. Living in Lake Lesina, the famous eel has become a principal of Slow Food and is well-known amongst chefs and nutritionists, both for its high nutritional value and for its great taste.
