The Tremiti Islands, le are a pure natural paradise still unpolluted; easy to get to by the sea, they are about 20km from the northern coast of the Gargano. The archipelago is formed from three main islands: San Domino, San Nicola and Capraia.

To these we must add Cretaccio, a small island of yellowish clay which protrudes between San Nicola and San Domino, and Pianosa, a solitary rock that lies about 20 km north-east of Capraia. Declared a natural marine reserve, in 2002 the Tremiti Islands earned the five sails (point system to evaluate marine areas from 1-5) from Legambiente (League for the Environment), placing them within the top 10 Italian zones that have the most clean sea.

The marine fauna is full of black sea bass,sea bass, lobsters, red snapper, cuttlefish and as such, in these unpolluted waters they find the perfect place for reproduction. Instead, on the surface, the archipelago is inhabited by the Aves Diomedeae, the birds of Diomedes, a homeric hero that myth says is to be accredited for the origins of the Tremiti Islands.
